Shaw Silent Step Underlayment Reviews - In today's we're going to talk about pad. Now, all laminate, since it's a floating floor, needs pad or underlayment underneath. Laminate products can come with either pad attached, or no pad attached. To determine what else you'll need for your installation depends on your subfloor, whether you have a concrete subfloor, or a wood subfloor. Now, if you're on a wood subfloor, and you buy a product that has pad attached already, you're ready to install right out of the box. You need no other pad, no other underlayment. On a wood subfloor without pad attached to the product, you need pad. On a concrete subfloor, if your product has pad attached already, you still need a Moisture Barrier, a painter's plastic, a Visqueen plastic, a product similar to that. It's a very, very thin 6 mil. product. We sell a product that comes in rolls of 150 feet. That's all you MUST have when you're on a concrete subfloor, and your product has pad attached. Now you could also purchase our 2mm foam that has a moisture barrier attached. That will give you 2 milimeters more foam, obviously. That gives you more comfort when you walk, and gives it a more quiet walk. So either way, you either have to have plastic, or a foam with a plastic.
When your product has no pad attached, shaw laminate underlayment pad and you are installing over a concrete subfloor, you must have the pad, and you must have the moisture barrier. Now the two products that we sell have both in one. This is two millimeter Foam Pad that also has the plastic moisture barrier built-in. If you're going over concrete, and you have no pad attached, this is the bare minimum of what you must have. If you have pad attached to your laminate, this plastic film is your bare minimum, and that is sold separately, or you can upgrade to this product. Like I said, a little bit more comfort when you walk, a little bit more sound killing, and a little bit warmer. Now, the products that we sell, the pad products that we sell, have a "lip and tape" system, which means there's a self-adhesive tape on one end that you just peel off, and those two or three inches overlap this lip, this two or three inches, and then it just sticks right to itself when you peel it off. So this is our Foam Pad. 2mm thick, plus the moisture barrier. The upgraded pad, and the true sound killer, is the Felt Pad. This is a four millimeter felt, plus a moisture barrier, plus the lip and tape system, the peel and stick, if you will, system. They come in hundred square foot rolls. So this is your sound killing product, true, solid comfort when you walk. Again a little bit warmer. And this is also made out of recycled materials, so it's a little bit of a green product as well.
This is your upgraded product that is more expensive, but it is worth it, and it does give you that more solid walk underfoot, and that quieter walk. So again, shaw laminate flooring underlayment installation your options for laminate are without pad, or with pad. And then depending on your subfloor, that's the key element here, determines what else you may or may not need, whether you just need a plastic, whether you need a foam with a plastic, or the sound killing felt with a plastic. This pad installs exactly the way it rolls out. You open it up. You kick it, just like you would a big roll of carpet or a rug, and that's how the pad goes down. So the pad comes in rolls, 100 sqft. rolls. You take the plastic off, the wrapping, and as I said, all you have to do for this procuct is roll it out. It installs the way it rolls out. You're going to let it roll all the way to your wall. Utility knife, or even scissors Cut. Just do like a typewriter. Bring this part back to the front. Roll it again, take off your lip and tape, and then that will tape to the top 3" here. This is going to overlap down here, and you've got your pad installed. It's that easy. You do the same for the foam and the felt. No difference in installation at all.
